The Home Building Process, Step-by-Step

  1. Survey and clear lot.
  2. Build pad for foundation.
  3. Dig footers and erect forms for slab foundation.
  4. Place fill-sand into formed area.
  5. Install plumbing (rough-in) and pour slab.
  6. Frame home and set trusses.
  7. Install windows and doors.
  8. Plumbing tub-set, and mechanical and electrical rough-ins.
  9. Frame walkthrough and correction (if necessary).
  10. Installation of exterior siding(s) and insulation.
  11. Installation of drywall—tape, finish and texture.
  12. Begin tile flooring.
  13. Interior trim and cabinets.
  14. Interior painting.
  15. Garage door installation.
  16. Deliver appliances.
  17. Plumbing, mechanical and electrical trim work.
  18. Grade yard and pour driveway/sidewalks.
